Johnny was adopted by a young couple of yuppies who were having trouble conceiving. A year later, they had his sister Sue. His adoptive father was a doctor and almost never around and his adoptive mother was a bit of a wasp but not unkind, though Johnny craved the attention of his father who was just too busy for his family. He started acting out for that attention early on and that's how he started burning things, though nothing big, just little things around the yard to upset his dad when he got home. When he was 5 his mother died in a car accident and after that his father quickly spiraled into drinking and gambling, becoming abusive of his children. Eventually, his violence got to the point of murdering a man in a bar when Johnny was 12 and he was sentenced to life in prison.

After their mother's death, he'd gotten very close with Sue and they were fiercely codependent on each other, but the foster care system ended up separating them and he hasn't seen her since their father's conviction. He floated around a bunch of foster homes until he was 18, usually getting kicked out for his behavior, getting into fights and setting things on fire and a couple times running away on his own and forcing child services to put him somewhere else or put him with his sister. He also developed his taste for excessive casual sex during this time, as well as picked up smoking. After he was out of the system, he joined the Air Force out of lack of anything else to do to support himself. If there's anything that'll kick a dumb kid's rough edges into something a bit smoother and suited to not be a menace to society, it's the military. He served in the war in the middle east for a while and then when too many of his friends died, he said fuck this and went home after his last tour was up, got a degree in engineering with his government check, became a mechanic and started racing cars and got into fire performance and other stunts for a traveling circus. He might have also tried acting for a bit, but that didn't really go anywhere.

All of his career choices have been made in the interest of trying to find Sue somehow but not having the money to hire someone yet. It's especially hard since their records were mostly lost in a server crash and there were no hard copies, so there's not much of a trail to follow. He also likes the attention of performing and he thinks Valhalla is the best place to get both of those things: connections to find Sue and a ton of attention and sex.
